U.S. Soccer Referee Courses

If you are interested in becoming a U.S. Soccer Certified Referee, please visit the U.S. Soccer Learning Center to create and account and view upcoming courses.

Certified for: Assistant Referee (A.R) for Competitive (travel) team home games.

Minimum age: 13.

  • 16 year old referees must have a work permit. Permits are valid for one year from date of issue.
  • 13 year old referees are required to have a parent or guardian present during their assignments.

NEW for 2023-24 Season

US Soccer and Illinois Soccer Referee Committee will be opening their 2024 classes in August 2023.  This training would allow you to work the fall season in 2023 and all of 2024 before requiring recertification.

Below is an initial list of locations for First Time Grassroots Referee Trainings will be held in August.
  1. Sat. 8/6 Grassroots First-Time Referee Course - Schaumburg 8:30-11am OR 1pm-3:30pm
  2. Sat. 8/13 Grassroots First-Time Referee Course - Bloomington 8:30-11am OR 1pm-3:30pm
  3. Sat. 8/20 Grassroots First-Time Referee Course - Tinley Park 8:30-11am OR 1pm-3:30pm
Entry is a blended course (online and in person) that requires online work and 2.5 hr. Field Session.
